DICTATOR patented door checks were invented more than 80 years ago, and they are still the answer to several problems.

They put an end to banging doors, to ensure the doors are closed safely and reliably. This helps to save the door, the hardware, and the frame from excessive damage.

They make sure doors are completely closed. This contributes to more energy efficiency and safety.

There are many different models available, mainly for optical reasons.

The default mounting position is vertical. Some types can be mounted horizontally.

DICTATOR Door Check

There are different models available, distinguished by their optics and mounting applications. The door check Junior, however, can only be used on small and lightweight doors.

All door checks are packed separately, together with fixing screws for wooden doors and the hook.

Functioning

When the door is opened, the hook automatically pushes the door check roller lever downwards, thus tensioning the integrated spring.
Whenever the door is closed, the roller lever swings upwards as soon as it touches the hook and then hydraulically slows down the movement of the door.
Now the door damper closes the door completely and keeps it closed with the strength of the spring.

All DICTATOR door checks feature a progressive damping. This means that irrespective of the door size and weight, and whether the door is slammed or properly closed, they control the door reliably and gently.

Strict quality control tests all door dampers and ensures that they are adjusted to give optimum damping. But as they are adjustable you can adapt them exactly to your requirements.

Turning the piston rod clockwise reduces the damping speed, turning it anti-clockwise increases it. Two complete turns are equivalent to a change of approximately 1 second.

Mounting

DICTATOR door checks are usually mounted towards the centre of the upper door member enabling them to close firmly and open easily.

The hook is correctly positioned on the door frame when the rubber roller can enter centrically. It is at the correct height when the rubber roller on the bent lever only just touches the front edge of the hook when closing.

If there is insufficient room above the door to mount the hook, we recommend using a DICTATOR R 1400 on the closing face of the door.
